The great GEO debate

Follow Me

Hey besties,

Not sure about you, but my brain hurts from the pace of AI innovation. Just when I get my head around vibe coding, now I'm supposed to be OpenClaw-ing? 🤯 Don't stress... I'll experiment with everything for you and let you know what's worth the work. For now: your Claude Projects, Gemini Gems, and Custom GPTs are just fine.

Now, let's group chat. 👇

🤖 GEO-IDK: Lots hitting my group chats this week in the world of GEO.

  • Axios reports LinkedIn is now a top cited source for AI, according to data from GEO tech company Profound.

  • Meanwhile, Jim Prosser claims GEO is Racket. His point is that good comms = good AI visibility, and selling GEO as a separate paid service outside of regular comms work is...well, read it.

  • Anecdotally, I'm hearing that despite the hype, a lot of folks are not finding earned media cited in branded searches.

My take: At a minimum, have a baseline understanding of your brand's presence. Continue strong comms work to distribute accurate information. Your website and press releases (aka AI notices) should clearly answer questions.

What are you doing with GEO? What's working and what's not? Do you have a big win to share? I'd love to hear it.

🛠️ PR Vibe Tools: My girl Sarah Evans has been on a building TEAR lately, so let's talk about all the cool things she's built for you:

  1. An digital twin AI bot of her brain to ask questions

  2. A reporter source finder that you can reverse engineer to see how your experts can show up

  3. A GitHub project to help you build your Wikipedia site (which the bots love… but you need good earned media articles before you start)

  4. A GitHub project to set up your morning news scan

  5. A GenAI press release builder custom GPT

Sarah proving how fun (and quick!) vibe coding can be.

✍️ AI writing tropes: Take this, make it a keyboard shortcut (or skill, or anywhere you can easily re-access over and over), and use it often to remove AI tropes from your writing. (h/t Rubina Fillion)

📰 Media gems: If you work in media relations, bookmark these. My friend and pitching expert Michael Smart broke down 10 real-life media pitches that landed coverage, and Carly Martinelli shared 5 killer subject line formulas.

Who will take the OpenAI CCO job?
Hey besties, Full disclosure: I've been in build mode, creating something new and exciting for our OTR members (and, of course, a bit for you all too). I've been deep in code and QA instead of group chats, but couldn't miss the chance to share what's been floating around this week. 👇️ 📨 Pitch perfect: Garth Corfield of The Telegraph shares exactly how he decides which press pitches ...
Announcement on ramps
Hey friends, If we were in a group chat, here's everything I would have dropped (at 4:37am because my children have decided this is an appropriate wakeup time): 👇️ 🚗 Announcement on ramps: Rachel Karten of Link in Bio (literally) wrote out your next announcement strategy. The hint: lots of on-ramps, and assume no one sees anything the first time. h/t Rachel Karten // Link...
We've Got New (Media) Rules
Hey besties, For four straight weeks, I've run a subject line A/B test: one version I write, the other I leave to AI. For four straight weeks, I've lost. The bots have won. But like Dwight vs. Dunder Mifflin Infinity, I will not relent. I will win someday, and I will shout it from the rooftops. Let’s group chat. 👇️ 💬 Bestie real talk: There's feedback your boss gives you (probably drafted in AI...
